The other day a friend of mine sent me an article about graduate students who decide to have babies while still in school. (Original article HERE). The article, full of good information that shockingly still needs to be stated about women in the academy, repeats an often heard trail of one-liners: “Why would I need permission to have a baby?” PhD programs “infantilize” young scholars. When too pregnant to lean in, “@#$% off” is a good option. And I like this one, “You may be a mom, but you are expected to behave like an obedient child.” The problem with this article is two-fold.
